Data centers and energy consumption

Currently, there are about 11.000 data centers worldwide, each requiring substantial amounts of energy, often more than 100 MW. The demand for new network nodes is steadily increasing, and the adoption of AI is further raising the energy needs of these centers. In Europe, data centers account for 1.4 – 1.6% of total energy consumption.

New Directive on Energy Efficiency

Starting in May 2024, the European Union has introduced an Energy Efficiency Directive (EED) to reduce energy consumption by 1.7% and carbon emissions by 55%.

The collection and analysis of consumption data is the first step in implementing energy efficiency measures and achieving the goals of:

  • Reducing energy consumption
  • Lowering CO2 emissions
  • Improving operational efficiency
  • Reducing environmental impact

Cinetix Solution

Components of the 4METRIX System

  • WPM-1013: A non-intrusive LoRa® wireless device for measuring the energy consumption of servers, switches, storage, KVMs, packet brokers, probes, and any other device powered by 230 VAC. It also measures temperature-humidity, airflow, and smoke presence via additional sensors.
